Bonnet Bay residents woke up this week to what can only be described as absolute bin carnage, with rubbish receptacles flung across footpaths, sprawled over driveways, and in some cases, rolling freely down the street like tumbleweeds in a dystopian wasteland.
“I put my bin out neatly by the curb. Next thing I know, it's upside down in my rose bushes like it's had a rough night out,” said local resident Karen Wilton. “The compost bin is halfway to Jannali. I don’t even want to talk about where my yellow lid ended up.”
Social media erupted as furious locals flooded community groups with photographic evidence of bins strewn in bizarre positions—one wedged into a garden bed at a perfect 45-degree angle, another precariously balanced on a neighbour’s letterbox. One particularly haunting image showed a lonely bin floating face-down in the Woronora River.
“I don’t know what’s happening here,” wrote Brian from Nixon Place, “but I do know that I just watched my general waste bin get yeeted into my driveway like it owed someone money.”
Theories are running wild. Some claim the garbage truck drivers are competing for the longest bin throw. Others insist it’s the work of local teens with a grudge against suburban order. A few particularly alarmist residents believe it’s an elaborate training exercise for AI-powered trucks learning how to dominate humanity—starting with our bins.
Meanwhile, reports of bins blocking driveways and residents engaging in full-contact retrieval missions have prompted calls for action. “I had to stop my car, get out, and move three bins just to leave my street,” raged one local. “I was basically playing an obstacle course designed by someone who hates me.”
With bin night approaching once again, Bonnet Bay locals are preparing for the worst. Some are reinforcing their bins with bungee cords, others are installing security cameras, and one resident has simply accepted fate: “Next week, I’m just leaving my bin on its side to save everyone the trouble.”
