Producers of Farmer Wants a Wife are in full-blown crisis mode after rumours surfaced last week that one of the show’s original farmers has already been booted before the season even begins. With filming deadlines looming, whispers are growing that an emergency replacement farmer has been plucked straight from the Sutherland Shire’s very own rural heartland - Helensburgh.
Enter Troy Thompson, a Helensburgh hydroponic farmer with a well-worn Ram 4x4 ute, two pet goats (which double as his lawnmowers), and a chicken coop that may or may not be purely decorative. While producers have been tight-lipped about the specifics of his farming operation, locals assure us he’s very passionate about his crops.
“Troy’s been committed to agriculture for years,” said one anonymous Helensburgh resident. “He’s all about sustainable, small-batch, indoor farming with a… uh… boutique approach. He’s definitely got a green thumb, that’s for sure.”
Despite his lack of sprawling paddocks or cattle herds, compared to his FWAW peers, Troy is reportedly keen to throw his Akubra into the ring. “Love’s like farming,” he told sources. “You’ve gotta nurture it, give it the right conditions, and sometimes… well, you just let nature take its course.”
With a rooster that crows at completely random hours, a deep love for his trusty high-vis vest, and a track record of keeping plants very healthy, Troy could be the Shire’s best shot at bringing a romance title home. Will he find true love, or will his potential wives start asking too many questions about what he actually grows? Stay tuned.
