Graduation ceremony with students in caps. Headline: "Local Student Scores ATAR 92, Sparks Parent Bragging." Trees surround a historic building.

The Sutherland Shire has been thrown into a frenzy after Lachlan “Lachie” Dawson-Worthington, a Year 12 graduate from the Shire's only private school, Inaburra, secured an impressive HSC ATAR of 92, triggering a regional outbreak of parental boasting.

His parents, Brett Dawson-Worthington and Amanda Worthington-Dawson, wasted no time launching a full-scale PR campaign, taking to LinkedIn to share the “exciting milestone.” Amanda’s post, titled “Proud Parent Moment: Leadership, Grit, and Academic Excellence Run in the Family”, featured a professionally edited montage of Lachie holding his results alongside motivational quotes about resilience and success.

“We are both thrilled and humbled (#thrumbled) by Lachie’s incredible achievement,” Amanda wrote. “His journey is a testament to family values, relentless dedication, and strategic after-school tutoring. We couldn't be prouder of the young leader he’s becoming.” Brett added in the comments, “It’s not just an ATAR; it’s a legacy.”

The post went viral in the Shire Business Leaders’ LinkedIn group, sparking a wave of “humblebrag” announcements from other Inaburra parents. Sharon and Greg McAlister-Jones, whose daughter “also attends the same school as Lachie,” posted: “Proud to be part of a community that nurtures brilliance! While Brielle’s ATAR remains undisclosed, her potential is limitless!”

Meanwhile, Jason and Melissa Hart-Williams, parents of Lachie’s former Year 9 tablemate, shared a corporate-style infographic tracking their son’s “academic upward trajectory” since sitting near Lachie in Commerce class.

Adding fuel to the frenzy, Former Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s children, notable alumni of Inaburra, were also name-dropped frequently in LinkedIn posts, with some parents claiming their kids once walked past the Morrisons in the school car park.

The “Parents of Inaburra” Facebook group has since gone into lockdown mode, overwhelmed by a surge of ATAR-themed posts featuring everything from bar graphs to family crest redesigns.

As for Lachie, he’s reportedly gone camping with friends, “mostly to avoid being listed as a ‘Notable Alumni’ on LinkedIn before uni even starts.”
