A fierce debate has erupted across the Sutherland Shire, dividing locals into two camps: those who call the region’s largest shopping centre Miranda Fair, and those who insist on its modern title, Westfield Miranda.

Shire residents born before 1990 have been particularly vocal, claiming the Miranda Fair name as a badge of honour.

“Back in my day, it was Miranda Fair, and it had personality,” said local purist Dave Mitchell, 52. “You’d go for a hot chook from Franklins, grab a fart cushion from Granny May’s, and finish it off with a choccy milkshake from Miss Maud’s . It was a rite of passage.”

Younger generations, however, remain confused by the nostalgia. “It’s literally been Westfield Miranda for over three decades,” said 24-year-old Ash Carter. “I don’t know what these boomers are on about.”

But for Miranda Fair loyalists, the name change represents something bigger. “It’s about history, culture, and knowing where you came from,” explained Karen Taylor, 47, who still refers to Myer as Grace Bros just to assert dominance.

“Calling it Miranda Fair is like a secret handshake. It proves you’re a true local.”

Debate reached new heights this week when a rogue group of staunch Miranda Fair supporters threatened to start a petition to officially revert the name. Westfield executives declined to comment, though sources say they remain unfazed - as long as everyone still gets lost in the car park and overspends at Kmart.
