In a Christmas twist no one saw coming, the Sutherland Shire Council has declared December 27 a permanent public holiday - National E-Bike Day - after 97% of local kids unwrapped brand-new e-bikes from Santa this morning. The region has since been thrown into a two-wheeled frenzy being compared to Planet of the E-Bikes.

Santa Claus, hailed as “The Patron Saint of Pedal Assist,” was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for “heroic contributions to battery-powered childhood joy.” When reached for comment, Santa reportedly said, “I just couldn’t fit another PlayStation 5 on the sleigh, so I went full e-bike mode.”

By 8:00 AM, every footpath, street, and nature strip was overrun by turbocharged tweens clocking speeds rivalling the Princes Highway at peak hour. “It’s like the Tour de France... but with less Lycra and more attitude,” sighed exasperated dad Dave Perkins, narrowly dodging a wheelie in his driveway.

Local businesses have already pivoted, with Westfield Miranda planning to convert half its rooftop car park into a “VIP E-Bike Valet,” while café owners are offering “Ride-Thru” service for juice boxes and babycinos.

The Shire’s emergency services issued a “Pedal Watch” warning, urging parents to supervise their kids’ newfound power responsibly. “It’s chaos out there,” warned Officer Ray McMahon. “One kid just overtook a delivery van on the Kingsway while eating a Zooper Dooper.”

Meanwhile, Santa’s heroic efforts

have prompted speculation that E-Bike Day could soon rival Australia Day for national significance. “Forget backyard cricket,” declared Shire Mayor Jack Boyd. “From now on, Christmas is all about charging up and riding out.”
